BMW E60 M5 launching hard, utilising the on-board launch control system. Everything bangs in so hard; clutch, diff, tranny, etc. It's brutal!!! Listen to those 'crisp' gear changes!

  • Did that car really have launch control?

launch control usually involves exhaust bangs and fire from the tailpipe and is only usefull in cars with turbo or compressor.
this looked more like hirev. cutout and anti slip system, it's not the same thing

    • Yes, BMW M5's

have a launch control system on their SMG (sequential manual gearbox) in order to launch better. Switch the gearbox control to the most aggressive position, hold the SMG lever forward and put the accellerator to the floor and hold it. Engine reves to about 5000 RPM and stabilizes. When it is holding steady, pull the SMG lever back, and hold on. It maximizes traction, minimizes wheel spin, and initiates shift lights on the tach, for the fastest ET's possible. I know, I have one.

    • Proof it's Launch control...

"The M5 features several F1 inspired engine and transmission controls including launch control, dynamic stability control, and the option of changing to either automated or manual as well as the speed at which shifts are completed (there are 11 shift programs in total forming what BMW calls Drivelogic)."

      1.)Select M Power mode
2.)Move the gear lever to S for Sequential
3.)Turn off DSC stability control completely
4.)Change the shift speed to fastest (6)
5.)Push the shift lever forward, and hold it there
6.)Floor the throttle. Tach will hold at about 3500 RPM
7.)Release shift lever. Wait for top speed.

    • OK! OK! OK!

I stand corected! This is still something completly different from when I grew up and "slaped a launch control onto my skyline" that thing was noicy, there was exhausflames, there was top turbopressure from the let-go of the cluch, there was wheelspin and tiresmoke..... to cut it short, way cooler than this super tech mumbo-jumbo.....

    • Yes, it is launch control

I think you'll find its one of the worlds most advanced launch controls, its obviously not just a bolt on launch control system that you slap onto your Skyline. Check out some reviews on it, its a fantastic system.
