A short tutorial about how to make a matchbox camera. This camera makes good pictures and is fun to make. Some pictures taken with the matchbox camera are attached to this video
Ah! The good old pinhole camera! This is a nice project for those who are just beginning in the photography and want to learn more about how a camera works. You can actually take pictures with this! Google "pinhole camera" and you'll find all the physics behind it - how it works, and all! 5*****
By LEM_cafe 1193384412 Reply Spam [+10] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou could just buy a disposable film camera for a couple of dollars, or even an inexpensive 35mm camera, again for a few dollars. And if you want to learn about how cameras work then go Google it as suggested. This doesn't really teach you anything except how to use a lot of sticky tape, and the picture quality will be rubbish. If you want to make a pinhole camera it'd give better results to do it with a large format negative, and a bigger chamber I think.
By zf1 1193697229 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAs I was taught a long time ago - the best way to understand something is to build it with your own hands. You can buy a nice DC motor in RadioShack for about $3. Yet in science and physics classes students build much simpler and largely useless for any practical purpose electric motors by using a magnet and some copper wires year after year. Why? Because they learn from it. Same here. One thing is to see it on a picture, another is to actually build it.
By LEM_cafe 1193706238 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat was justt too cool :) my "how to make a paper pig" video is no match to urs :P lol

By flaveris 1193250442 Reply Spam [+5] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut i bet you could buy a digital camara with your money instead of buying so much tape
5*
I only spent US $7
By HashBash 1193349072 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe was joking
By jjamesjr1220 1193358252 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis has been around for ages. There's a flickr group called matchbox pinhole with thousands of photos in it. Google for matchbox pinhole for the original intsructions. white tape is a bad idea it will let in loads of light, and that pinhole is too big
By cliffordcapers 1194456233 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt Still Works. And makes good pictures with 0.5 mm pinhole. You can make smaller pinhole if you want.
Yes, black tape would be better. But mine worked with white one.
God job!
By SekinArt 1194212307 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNothing, found everything around my house.. Just hope it works out, Thanks
make sure No light gets into camera body. try to use black tape.

By sicked418 1193240391 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhats wrong with my rating, just few days ago it was 4.5. Now its only 3 at the moment. Its a great camera. Read comments. Its obvious, somebody rates down this video on purpose.
By HashBash 1194601059 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePerhaps people are realising you didn't think this up by yourself.

By alspix 1194642437 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehas to ask permission for a free idea.
it wasnt ur idea. and its not ur blog. u just copy this nick and joined few days ago.
Actually, this is a great trick still used today, as many digital cameras are a pain for some projects. I've made these befor, as I do time-exposure, and digital cameras just can't compete with film. I'd put my money on a pinhole camera VS a digital for a 10 minute exposure anyday.
By MJDick 1193397791 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesome of the new digitals then. I work with both film and digital and my Nikon D2X Digital SLR can do everything my Nikon F6 film SLR can do and more.
By tonedeft 1193441032 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWilling to try anything, but have you tried a 10 to 15 minute exposure? I've tried the D2 already, a business partner tried to get me to go digital. The picture was so pixelated and he just looked at me and never has said anything about me using film since. Yes, I know I may be one of the few photographers left that still uses film, but ISA 25 or 33 on a calm night will bring colors, and digital has yet to master the time exposure. Feel free to see what I mean with my online portfolio MJDickPhoto.com How many cars do you see on the Hoover Dam, and how calm is the water in my pictures? I'll see if I can find a D2X and see what it will do though.
By MJDick 1193462824 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesuper cool man.will try it.waiting 4 d digicam thing.
By lipuster 1193378601 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeawesome idea. did u come up with this all by urself? i showed this to my friend. five stars.

By idearich 1193343373 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow long do the subjects of the picture have to stay still for the picture to burn into the film? Like, 2 minutes or something?

By tycoyoken 1194626634 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHe did not think of it either. He stole my ideas to make money for himself. Google for alspix matchbox pinhole camera, Dec 31 2005
By alspix 1194642115 Reply Spam [-2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeso i wanted to do it myself. anyone can do it and submit here. why didnt u submit it urself?
But pinhole cameras are SO SLOW that they are useless. For $7 you could have bought a throw-away with flash, but I applaud your craftsmanship.
I spent less then Us $7. All u need is to buy any beer or soda can and one film roll. The other empty film roll i found at home, so it was free :)
