Being prior service in a medical unit, and with over 16 years in civilian medical as well, the standards by which say a person is overweight are grossly exagerated. These are only rough guidlines at best. The only true way to see if a person is overweight or obese is by hydro weighing. This literally seperate the amount of true body fat from lean tissue mass. at one time according to todays sacles I would have been considered to be overwieght, soley due to mu muscle mass. yet I have always been thin and fit in my stature. Even today by these standards I am considered to be border line overweight, and yet my yearly physical (including full blood work, cardio exam, and chest x-rays) I am fit as a fiddle. Only those that use such guidlines without taking into account the whole subject at hand is ignorant. However, the person in this video clip made himself this way, and his wife is just as guilty as he is. She pampmered him into this sad state.
True there are those that are born with a larger predisposition of being obese, and there are some illnesses as well not to mention drugs that cause this, but as a rule most people can tend to their health in this respect with common sense. This affliction has nothing to do with the country, or financial level, but only on the food they choose to consume, and how they choose to live their lifestyles. Nothing more and nothing less. Obesity is not just a cause of concern in the US, but all throughout the world. Look at Europe, or even southe America, there too are people like this in those places.

Just taking your weight is not a good way to calculate if you are overweight, I know someone in my gym whos around 6 foot, 250lbs , but doesn't look fat at all, that's because his bodyfat percentage is low, and a lot of that weight is pure muscle.

the system they use to measure obesity is flawed. For example, Emmitt Smith in his prime with the Dallas Cowboys, would have been considered obese. Do you seriously think someone in as good of shape as Emmitt Smith should be considered obese?

A country where so many are overweight, is not a sign of wealth, it's a sign of poverty. Wealthier Americans stay thinner, having the paychecks to purchase healthy, organic food such as fresh vegetables and fruits. The vast majority of poorer Americans suffer obesity because of processed, poor quality food, high in carbohydrates and calories. The working class are disadvantaged in that extent- and overlooked by the most powerful corporations. Many countries refuse to purchase the processed food that we eat in this country because they're aware of the questionable and potentially harmful additives that kill so many of us here.

WTF? The US has the LOWEST cost of food in ALL of the world. We have the ability to cook the freshest and the least costliest food avaiable in ANY part of the world today. What we have here is a failure to cook at home and spend time with the familes we have. Hell, his wife was BRINGING HIM A DIET SODA...if he had to get up to get his food, and to care for himself, he would be dead or thin, and BOTH of thos alternatives would be better for my tax dollars!

Most people under 6 feet but over 300 pounds simply have out of control eating habits. Also, in America we have much more sedentary lifestyles than the rest of the world. The suburbanization of America has led to people needing to drive rather than walk to get around.

You don't even have to eat healthy food to not be obese, just do lots of exercise. Obviously there will be other health concerns with not eating fruit, veg etc. but at least you won't be ridiculously fat

McDonnald's fault. It's fine to eat there or any other fast food from time to time. The problem is when people eat nothing else. I know this from experience too. I used to eat nothing but fast food and drink MtDew all day. (I was college age, un-married, didn't want to cook, and very active.) Then when I hit 27 it started to catch up to me. The difference is, I cut way the heck back and stopped gaining weight. Some people just won't do it though.

There is no little healthy food on any menu in most "American" restruants. Want to lose weight? Cut out Cheese/cream, fried foods and don't eat your last two bites. Good luck finding a non-authentic in America that gives you that choice. I can't feel sorry for this guy. Over-indulgence in any vice brings bad consequnces.

This guy did eat his way to that weight, and he didn't realize how dangerous it was and decide to quit, his family forced him to get help, but by then it was just too late. I feel bad that he died (though I don't remember hearing that part) but in the end it was his own fault.
