  • It's A Mazda alright.

    It's a Mazda-used to be called a Cosmo I believe in the States but what a great platform for the engine.
    Friend of mine had one of that style decades ago here and it ran like a rocketship STOCK also blew oil like a ground well.

    20B's were made by mazda. You don't know what you are talking about. They didn't use two 13b engines to 'Custom make' This engine. Mazda essentially used three 13B-REW rotors and housings to form the 20B-REW engine which was fitted as standard to some cosmo's.
    Best engine ever if you ask me.

    this car is a 3rotor, 20b dont come from mazda this is an after market engine, they combined two 2rotor engine together which gives more boost to the engine, mazda did a 4rotor in 1991? not sure and it was hell as fast + it won the 24 hours de la mars race, has been the only japanese car to win this race but then was banned for its light weight

    is the fact that the older masda mx3's had a rotary engine....... mazda was smart to pick this engine up.
    it is the same engine design used in the rx-7 and many other sportscars made by mazda. it is possable to create tremendous horsepower with a very small engine because it is not uncommon for them to tach out at 9 or 10 thousand rpm's also the engines have olmost no moving parts so friction is way down and power is way up. put one BIG turbo on one of these engines and some pro rated tires. then you have one bad mother

      they arent perfect, but yes they have less moving parts (not "olmost no moving parts"), there are still plenty. also, piston's can reach over 15,000 rpms (motorcycles, f-1 cars...etc). the biggest bennifit, i feel, is there compact size and low weight, allowing them to be placed in practically any part of the car (namely, to give the car a near 50/50 weight distribution), which then makes it a "bad mother" on track (i drive an rx8 and beat much higher classes in autocrosses)

AND it's smooth (yes i've driven vettes with over 500hp on track and they are BEASTS...practically impossible to drive smoothely) And do you really drive slow enough to achieve those mpg readings?

      WE had the RX2 and Rx3 in the US....back in the early 70s!!! of course they existed, and still do here. They fell out of favor do to reliability of the apex seals. It wasn't until the late 70's when the RX-7 came to the US that America embraced the rotary. I almost bought one to rebuild as a hotrod back in 1984.
