    .223 is the civilian vernacular ... military is 5.56x45 and the .308 is 7.62x51 Nato.

    The AK47 fires a 7.62x39 and NOT a .308. Dunno why he got that wrong, but he is wrong. It even looked like a 7.62x39 he held up before the .50 cal.

    I have an AR50 and have scored at 1,000 yards so far. Anything less than three or so pounds on the table will go airborne from the concussion when my .50 is fired.

    .50s are awesome and Ronnie Barret is a number one AMERICAN!

      Your genius has gone ballistic. The show is made for American tv. The ex-seal was expressing the caliber in the inch system as that is the dominant measuring system in the States. Don't know why you didn't catch that????
      Most people watching a program like this do not really give a shiit how the round is.

      civillian venacular is non-metric here in the good ole USA- aren't you kinda splitting hairs---the metric system never really caught on like they told us it would back in the 70's.....

  • Simple Conversion

    Caliber is expressed in fractions of an inch. For example: .50 caliber means that the bullet is 50/100ths of an inch in diameter or more simply 1/2 inch in diameter.
    Also:
    5.56 millimeters (mm) = .223 caliber (inches)
    7.62 mm = .308 caliber.
