You ever see those sidewalk paintings that look for all the world like they're three-dimensional if you look at them from a particular point, but look really weird and distorted if you walk around and look at them from some other perspective?

This trick uses the same mechanism. If the tabletops were drawn merely as two-dimensional polygons, and we were looking at the paper from directly above rather than at an angle, the illusion would disappear.942660- Yes!
