    Wouldn't the easiest way to do this be to use one hand to lift pick up the bottle, then use the other hand to remove the lighter? Then just put the bottle back down.

    Newtons First law states that a object in motion stays in motion, and an object at rest stays at rest unless an external force acts upon it.
    That is why the bottle stays.
    In our 7th grade science, we did pretty much the same thing but we put a cup filled with water on a paper towel and pulled the paper towel out from under it. To explain Newtons First Law.
