A great goal, but was ruled out for some reason. The guy touches only the ball, definitely no foul.

Should Count This One

  • More simple than everyone thinks

The rule is that you cannot encroach on the keeper once he/she has control of the ball (i.e. in his/her arms, footwork/control doesn't count, obviously), and cannot obstruct the keeper from punting it out... if the striker is stationary and the keeper is dumb enough to waltz up and kick the ball into him, then it is fair game... but you can't run up to steal the ball from the keeper once he/she has control.

it doesn't matter how high his kick is, or even if he used his head. none of those are factors because they do not address the rule that is being broken.

This is not a cardable offense. It is not a "dangerous play." It just becomes a free kick opportunity.

And if everyone would stop with the flaming, there would be far fewer comments on this video.

THE RULE OF BEIN 10 FEET FROM THE KEEPER WAS ONLY INTRODUCED AT TEH END OF THE 2005 SEESON AND NO EARLER... BY THE LOOK OF THIS VIDEO IT WAS DATED A BIT BEFORE THAT WHAT YOU THINK.. TEH REASON FOR THE FOUL OF THIS IS BECAUSE THE REF CAN CHOSE WHAT HE PLAYS WITH THIS RULE... IT IS THE REFS DECISION WETHER HE GIVES THIS GOAL OR NOT ...

  • A very proper appliance of the rule

It wasn´t goal it doesnt matter if you get out or not of the area but to be goal you should take out the ball from the goalkeeper with the head or something else you cannot rise your leg to 90° from your body or more, because it will count as a dangerous play, and to all those people who insuteld and everything and telling that he should have a card... Dangerous Play = No Card at all!

I am not from US (not american because they are not AMERICANS we all from America are Americans so please stop calling them that F**king Gringos!)
i am 100% Mexican and I know so much about football! And I've done and seen goals like that but the ball taken out from the goalkeeper with the head or with the chest, witouth touching him, and without having to leave the area, that counted.

    • I'm afraid...

...you're wrong, but I say it with all respect. Close, but that's not the point. The only reason this goal didn't count is that there's a rule which says you can't interrupt a goalkeeper's clearance, you have to wait until he whether drops the ball to the floor, passes the ball to another player or he clears it.

If he has already started his move to clear it away with the foot and you touch it before his foot, that's the same as a foul. It's not that it's a dangerous play, my friend =)

    • Then why...

then tell me why when you take the ball out with the head it is counted ;)... (it is counted only when the goalie doesn't have full control of the ball like he is grabing the ball with one hand or it's in the air or he is bouncing* it on the floor... and here he takes it out with the leg (in a dangerous play) and it should've been counted if it wasnt because of the dangerous play because the goalie drops the ball to kick and in that moment he doesn't have full control of the ball

By daynightmare 1152153877 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • I still think you're wrong...

You may only take the ball from the keeper with the head if he's holding it with one hand, that's the ONLY case. You may not interrupt the clearing move. It's not because of a dangerous play as you say.

A dangerous play is not necesarily any play in which you lift your leg in a 90° angle (many goals wouldn't count if that was the case), but a play in which you lift your leg in that angle and you show your shoe spikes to the opponent (as if you had the intention to injure the other player). In the play he takes the ball with the tip or the upper part of his shoe, so it's not because of a dangerous play. Trust me.

A dangerous play is also signaled when the other player has already the leg lifted to take control of the ball but when another player tries, a moment after, to take it with the head. But in that case the dangerous play is signaled agains the one who tried to head the ball because of the reckless effort.

In this play the goalie has full control of the ball and is preparing to clear it but is interrupted. If the attacker had bounced the ball once the keeper had cleared it (even if it was only a few feet away from the keeper), it would have counted

I actually wanted to bet that it was suppose to be counted as a goal until you said "you cannot rise your leg to 90° from your body or more, because it will count as a dangerous play", I never knew that and now I have to agree with you, you should take the ball away with your head.

  • Rule book

Dude it is up to the ref to decide whether it was a dangerous play and dangerous play is if any player (including subs) plays in a manner that is dangerous to anyone from specators and coaches to goalkeepers. The rulebook says "If in the opinion of the referee a player is playing dangerously".

It is a foul though because he is preventing the GK from releasing it from his possesion.

  • LOL

Dangerous play in this case high footing, high footing is where your leg goes to the height of the other players chest, 90degress lol? you rise your leg higher than 90degrees after a shot, don't be stupid, may have been ruled out because referee did not see the ball leave the keepers both hands.

Sorry to anyone who beleives its a beautiful goal. The fact is; the player who score should of been carded. Its interfering with a boot from a goalie, which is stated in the rules as a foul. And being a profesional player he should of known that so I beleive the referee should of carded him for either a delay of game or a misconduct (making a mockerie of the game)

  • The reason this goal was dissalowed was ...

...the rules of football state that when a goalkeeper is taking a kick like that:

The goalkeeper cannot be impeaded because the ball is still classed as being in his hands... even when he has tossed the ball in the air just before kicking it.

These rules were intorduced by FIFA a few years back!

  • you guys are idiots

first of all there are no rules in soccer, there are LAWS. Second of all PJ had it right...it is not a goal it is a fould to obstruct the goalies realease of the ball, also known as shadowing the goalie. It is a mandatory yellow card for that action and the result is a indirect free kick for the a the goalies team. Im a national referee and thats the fact...

By nationalref 1145001172 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
  • 6 seconds rule

It should have been a free kick against the keeper even before he kicked the ball. He held the ball for 9 seconds in his hands. the maximum is 6 seconds.

By the sea 1144944622 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • i say...

go F**k yourself it was barely over 6... it's from when he has control of the ball... he doesn't have control of the ball until he covers it up and the players leave... from then on it's just over 6 seconds... and it seems like i'm counting fast

but then again nailing the keepers for going over by 2 seconds everytime when they clearly aren't trying to delay the game or gain an unfair advantage (because that's the obvious reason for the rule) sounds pretty gay to me...

so take your stopwatch... and shove it up your ass

    • No...

The counting starts when the goalkeeper stands up. And if everyone wou be so anctious about the rules, imagine how crappy soccer would be

By Robbert 1144953277 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Imaginative, but wrong....

Nowhere in the 6 seconds rule anything is mentioned about standing up. Controlling the ball with his hands is the only criterium for starting the count. Just looking at the confusion about the refs decision not to count this goal, I think it's a good thing to simply know the rules.
Making rules and not use them properly will make football crappy. Then it's better to lose the rule itself. suggestion: start with offside

    • Americans and Football dont mix

This is something that's happened countless times in English football over the years. The most recent was Thierry Henry. It was disallowed because it is deemed as dangerous play to swing your leg up in front of the keeper as he is kicking - it would be very easy to injure the keeper (look what happened to Luc Nilis when he kicked Richard Wright's foot) The ball clearing the penatly area has NOTHING to do with it, unless it's a dead ball goal kick from the 6-yard box. whichthis wasn't.

  • Nice Try

You guys aren't right. Here I'll get the rule book I am a referee. Juananz, you're extremely close except for the part where you said you can take the ball with your head if the goalie has the ball in one hand. It is not dangerous play but you could spin it off that way if someone doesn't understand the ruling. Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct of the 2005 FIFA Laws of the Game states that "an indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player, in the opinion of the referee: -prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands"

I have been to a couple referee clinics and they said that the "hands" is another word for the control of the ball. From the point that the goalie gets complete control (puts one hand on the ball, or even one finger but not his feet on the ball, in that case he is treated like a player) of the ball to the point he releases the ball from his control (after kicking / clearing / droping it to the ground) a player cannot interfere with the goalkeeper.

Juananz, when you said taking the ball from the goalie with the head if he has only one hand on the ball is COMPLETELY untrue because that one hand has control and you can't do anything to take the control away from the keeper. I hope you guys don't take this personally and accept the fact that I don't mean any disrespect but I've got the law book with me here so I'm going with it and the opinion of the world class referee's I have talked with. By the way I have received a 91% on my Class 3 Exam if that helps you guys.

    • Hehe

The thing with the head was a response for the other guy since it was allowed here in Mexico for one or two seasons (except when he was wrapping it with the arm), but then it was disabled because of the "control" thing you accurately mentioned. The head thing has nothing to do with the play seen on the video, don't misunderstand the comment. (By the way, I also have the rulebook, hehe =P)

Mix these two rules (specially the specifications stated in the second one):

-Preventing the goalkeeper from releasing the ball. A player who attempts to prevent the Goalkeeper from putting the ball into play by standing directly in front of the Goalkeeper can be called for breaking this rule or for "unsporting behavior", in which case both a Yellow Card
