    I drive a truck, and this S**t happens all the time. US Gov't brings over foreigners to put a body in the seat of a truck, to please the big companies. Take a look around you next time you drive down the highway, at who is behind the wheel of the "big truck" driving with you. I have been driving trucks for almost 15 years now, and this S**t is more commonplace than you think. Bald tires, bad brakes, trailers in S**t condition. The driver of the Audi surviving is a miracle in and of itself. The truck driver, to my glee, is gone...but for good? Trash haulers and dump wagons (gravel haulers) are pressured by the people they haul for to get as much on as possible and skirt the scales. So this one should be brought against the company for allowing such practices to continue. If the US started shutting down these fly by night outfits, then the roads would be safer for all of us, cars and trucks alike. Thankful no one got killed.

      I drive truck as well, hauling wood residuals (chips, hog fuel, sawdust, etc) and everything that you're saying about truck conditions are true as far as i'v seen. trucks are running over weight all the time... trust me it can be hard to judge it when you're loading sometimes and some guys dont like the idea of shoveling for two - three hours.. so.. you get some trucks running anywhere from 1000 - 14000 lbs over weight. think the companies care?? of course not they get paid by weight... lol and if the driver gets caught at the scale its his ass not theirs... the good thing about our trucks is that they all have gps in them and they have a speed limit of 90kph (55mph). you hear about it if you go over. anyways thats my rant for tonight... i think there was more but oh well.. i cant remember, im tired.

      In one clip on the news, I was told that the trucker fell asleep at the wheel, but today on CNN I swear I heard someone say he was charged for drunk driving. So far I have 3 different stories.

      Most of the buses on the road haul ass, they need to slow thier dangerous asses down. In many states the speed limit for large trucks is 5MPH slower than the rest of the traffic, but I often get passed by them as they go zipping along, easily 20MPH or more over the limit.
      (and I usually go with the flow of the rest of traffic to avoid causing a backup, but these damned trucks just haul ass way too fast).

      The 18 wheelers are no better. Most of those bastards tailgate you in an 80,000lb truck, or pull out into the left lane on hills at 45MPH to pass their buddy doing 44MPH and traffic stacks up for 10 minutes waiting for the lunking beotch to get out of the way, then get on the flats and roll at 80 MPH nearly running everyone off the road. I hate the 18 wheelers, I hate the buses. The bastiches are damned dangerous.

      In all fairness there are some truckers that drive decently, but they are the exception and not the rule. If a good driver happens to exit the highway when I do, and stops for lunch, I'll go out of my way to pay for his/her lunch and thank him/her for driving like they have some sense.

      I drove a 3200 mile round-trip a couple weeks ago and on the way we saw nine accidents and everyone of them involved 18-wheelers. On the way back, we saw 17 wrecks and only one did not involve an 18-wheeler. 11 of the wrecks were all in one state and within 6 hours of each other (it was raining heavily and night time, yet the damned trucks were just flying along as if it were daylight and dry ....no wonder the morons wrecked so much). Bunch of friggin idiots.

    A camera mounted inside a passenger bus traveling on the Long Island Expressway captured a horrific accident on Wednesday. An Audi TT was sideswiped by an 18-wheeler and subsequently rear ended by the videotaping passenger bus. Nine people were injured, including 8 passengers on the bus. The driver of the 18-wheeler was cited for, among other things, bald tires and weight violations. The driver of the Audi survived although he suffered serious internal injuries.
