Lockheed Martin tests it's new hybrid airship
Because dirigibles have enormous lifting capacity, at much lower operating cots, and require much less ground support.

By I LIKE TURTLES 1194967873 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow secret is it if it has been video recorded and shown on the internet? -.-'
By gotyx 1202419569 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedoesn't look like it qualifies as lighter than air, it seems to have to use a runway and forward momentum to gain lift. Or maybe it's just the impression I get from the short video.
As it lacks an internal framework, this is technically not a "Zeppelin."
By Tavilabradog 1201276795 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removecould it cary more water than a canadair? maybe it would be good for fires since it could houver over a fire at a safe distance for the heat and drop all the water on the same spot.
ofcourse when there are big fires usually they come with strong winds so i dont know how it handles that,,,,

By excuse_me! 1195011296 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt looks very unstable because of its wide shape. Unless these have incredible lift capacity coupled with the ability to hover then I wonder what the point is
By sniperbait 1195003571 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI like it a lot, but why ??? What purpose would it serve that conventional aircraft, whether fixed wing or helicopters couldn't. - just curious

By legendary240 1194975129 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt is called the SkyCat and it is not been secret, info about it has been around for a few years. I think this is the Skycat20, as in 20ton payload. If this works they are planning a Skycat200 and Skycat1000. There is no aircraft that can even come close to that payload. Advantages are you not tied to airfields, it can land on any open flat ground or even marshland or water. It also consumes much less fuel because you use no fuel to get the payload into the air and keep it there, the lifting gas does that. Also it is built by a British firm, not Lockheed
