I made a portable one with 4" pvc pipe necked down to 1.25" pvc pipe. A 4 second shot of Rave 4 hair spray works the best as the combustible. Use a Coleman lantern twist igniter to ignite the air-fuel mixture. It will shoot a potato a long long way or turn it into hash browns at short range, 20 yards, against a utility pole. Potatoes that are soft but not rotten work the best. Use extreme caution.

  A CO2 would help the portability a lot. I wonder how many shots 1 tank would do. The air chanber is pretty big, probably hundreds of times bigger than something like a paintball gun.

  I have a few paint guns too. They are definitely a lot of fun. Sometimes I just feel like shooting something other than paint balls... maybe something bigger. And, its always fun to crank up the velocity. I am not sure how fast this thing shoots, but I've gotta say its faster than any paintball gun I have seen. I am sure those cherry tomatoes would produce some serious welts.

  My compressor was set to 90 PSI when I made the movie. It works great at much lower pressure and I have tried it all the way up to 125 PSI. I think a lower pressure might have been better for the movie. At 90 PSI the projectiles are totally obliterated. They basically break down into their various gasses upon impact. With maybe 50 PSI you get more visible schrapnal.

Yeah, I built something like this over a year ago to launch water balloons like a mortar.

Good idea, but it's been done--search for douchenator on google. Good rip-off though.
