How to Test for Lead in Makeup

  • this is a bunch of bs

There is no chemical basis for this reaction. First of all gold is the most inert metal around so the use of gold in this test is entirely bogus. SEcond of all the color dark from lead would have to be lead sulfide so where is the sulfur coming from and what does it have to do with the gold? nothing.

  • I take that back - this is a hoax

This test is fake. The reaction created is not from lead. This is a hoax. Check snopes.com.
    Sorry.

Thanks for your comments planka i checked out the website you posted. Although the FDA approves of lead use in makeup, claiming that it's not dangerously concentrated as it was in the past, lead will always be LEAD. And since lead is the cheapest ingredient used to keep makeup at its solid state, some companies will continue to use lead in makeup. It is really up to the consumers to trust whether or not they want to continue usage of certain types of cosmetics.

You are totally right. Lead is still allowed by the FDA as well as mercury, and many other harmful chemicals and metals. It's odd that they approve of them citing a supposedly 'safe' level. Question is, who knowingly wants to put ANY AMOUNT of that garbage on their skin?? I know I don't. I don't mind paying a little bit more for quality, synthetic free cosmetics. And NO I DON'T mean high priced department store products. They contain garbage too! I get my organic products at WWW. What Is Your Skin Eating.NET They last a really long time too, in case you're wondering :)

  • Excellent

For a makeup buff, this is great - not something most cosmetics companies would probably like to see you doing at their counter!! This also works for eye makeup and lipstick. I applied a thin swipe of lipstick on my forearm and rub it out with my ring and the lead definitely shows up in darker streaks. (Incidentally, my drugstore cosmetics made in China have all shown positive for lead). Can't thank you enough for the tip!
