I'll show you by an easy way, how to construct an alarm system, that's based on the principle of pressure pads, which work by touch. It's very useful to catch unpleasant visitors red-handed ;)

If it works by touch
it's a touch sensor, not a motion detector.

Why not
Just take a very limber spring, one that would bend if blown or tilted sideways, stand it up, add a metal rod up the center and connect each part, and you have a motion switch 1000 times smaller and better conductivity that a chain of paper clips. You can adjust the sensitivity with a weaker spring or a bigger rod up the center.

  as I already wrote, it's a very useful construction for a lot of situations . But I grieve for your daughter, too, as I'm only 19 years old by now, I know how tricky parents could be to control every step of their kids ;)
