Potassium (K) is a highly reactive METAL, it is so reactive it must be kept under oil.
The chemical you are mixing with the sugar is potassium nitrate (KNO3) they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

First of all, this is a hi-jacked link from shootin eggs. For that this guys a douche. Second this recipe is garbage, the KNO3 to sugar ratio is unbalanced, the smoke bomb lasts about 3 sec, and creates an insanely intense heat. It melts aluminum cans! I tried it several different ways u need more sugar than KNO3. Third its not Rit Dye its any Aniline Dye

This smoke bomb dosent work, because the potassiumnitrate burns to hot, and destroys the dye.

If you wanna make a colored smoke bomb, use potassiumchlorate instead of Potassiumnitrate.
