OMG the USA lost a game of "futball". I cant take it, this be known I must go kill myself. What are we to do? Pretty much all that I have seen on this post board, is a bunch of people from America saying that "who cares about soccer, we're the best at everything else" and a bunch of people from other countries saying "America S**ks at futball, and they S**k at everything else". People, wake-up, dammit!
The USA fielded a team full of subtitutes against a German team pressured to win at all costs, following their devastating loss to Italy (1-4). Its no wonder that the entire American defense was dissected by expert Bundesliga strikers desperate to score and regain their nation's pride. The USA is not a bad team. In fact, they are probably the fastest-moving nation on the international pecking order, as their current position of 4th in FIFA rankings suggests. Sure, they scored easy points against teams such as St. Kitts, Grenada, and Barbados, which the the European sides don't have the luxury of playing, but plain fourth place is a hell of a feat already! And besides, nobody in the right mind I would call Japan, Poland, or Norway push-overs, all of them teams USA beat in friendlies.
Some of us Europeans might argue that friendly victories such as those I mentioned above don't mean S**t and that the USA don't deserve to be so high up in the FIFA rankings, which is true. Remember that FIFA rankings are purely mechanical and don't judge anything else but wins, draws, and losses. They don't count team quality, match-day conditions, injuries, nor the strength of the opposing side. So maybe if we count everything the USA would stand at 20th and Germany at 13th or so.
So chill-out, people, admit that the USA is a good team. Admit that Germany is a good team. The beauty of the modern game is that the difference between the traditional powers and the so-called "weaklings" has diminished. Who expected Ecuador to beat both Brazil and Argentina in the qualifiers?
And last of all, keep your stupid comments to yourselves. This is no place to start bitching about our cultural differences. Whether we like the Mannschaft, Arsenal, the Phil. Eagles, or the Red Sox, it doesn't mean we can start degrading others. If you're going to say something stupid, something that would anger others, refrain from revealing your ignorance. Just F**k off the site.

I have three things to say. 1)Like everyone else is saying this loss was only a fluke because we only had 3 starters and the rest were trying to get a spot on our national team.2) I love when Americans say soccer is a P***y sport and that they love football because they arent manly enough to play a sport like Rugby where all the bad asses are, and have you seen a football fight they try to punch eachother with their helmets on...hmmmm.3) Lastly hopefully David Beckham comes to the U.S. to play and becomes an American citizen to play with the U.S. then we would own, but I don't thin it will happen. It is important to realize that in less than 2 months, the World Cup will begin and then we will see how America does. Until that point, rankings, previous games, tradition etc. don't matter. What is fact is that the USA has DRASTICALLY improved. It is ridiculous to argue that the US is as good as Brazil or Argentina but I'm not so sure it is as ridiculous to claim they are pretty even with Italy or Germany (we will see though). The fact is, as globalization spreads and races become more mixed and trainers from foreign countries teach other countries how to play, the line between each team will become more and more blurred. Look at USA basketball. A sport that the USA absolutely dominated 10 years ago. Nobody was even close and now, other countries to fear them as much because they have started playing more, training more and sending their players to the NBA to play. We are approaching a time where we may not be able to claim that 1 team is absolutely better than the other and personally, I find that very exciting. It makes things unpredictable which is usually why we watch sports. To be entertained, thrilled and see some good competition. All of this bickering about who is better should be put aside.. lets get excited for the World Cup! (Yes, there are some Americans who feel that soccer /futbol/ foosbal /football is a great sport and one of the best to watch.)

1. It's really obvious that most of you hate American's and that's why you emphasize on how they S**k at soccer. Which is true, they aren't that good but not as bad as your anti-Americanism makes it seem.
2. Americans, stop using the FIFA rankings as support. You need to understand how they rank first. The rankings are based on a points system, and you earn points by winning. The problem is that America plays against little teams like St. Kitts, Barbados, Jamaica and others all year round, so they win most of thier games. The powerhouses in Europe have a much harder time earning points against each other, so they don't win as much. Eargo, the US earns more points and are put high in the rankings.

All we need is time. we have the greatest potential because we are so diverse. So what if the American team is composed from players born elsewhere, it's obvious to me who they'd rather represent when they wear our colors. if we educate the American public on the rules of soccer, then have some celebrities pick up the sport or somethin, and have more kids play the sport, then I think it will be a succesful campaign to popularize soccer. I've played baseball and soccer about the same amount of years each and they each have their thing but for the fanbase and the fun before, during, and after each game soccer to me is more fun.

We have the potential to be among the best teams in any sport because precisely because the U.S. is so diverse. So who cares if the competitors on our teams all come from different countries--when they wear the american colors its obvious to me who they choose to represent (whatever the reason). We should work on popularizing the sport among the kids if we want to see soccer played big time in America, as a marketer I believe that if celebrities start picking it up first, then educate people on the simple rules to play and the dedication it takes to gain the technique some of these players like Bekham, ronaldinho, Maradona (top-of-mind) have then it will be interesting to watch and play.

There are american football team in Europe, I'm playing in one, we may not have many great players, but that is because this sport is really new in Europe. By the way, the best team in Europe is as far as I know Germany, they've got some top quality players, the second one is France and the third one is England (The reason that Europe don't have many good players is because most of the time our players are retired players from rugby or players that aren't good enough to play professional rugby)
