because your computer is too slow to run it or you are trying to install software that isn't compatible. I run vista on a 2Ghz Duo core with 2Gb of ram. Some of the software that I have running has given me problems in 2000 and XP, but not in Vista. Snarfer, Sonar 6, Camstasia4, Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, Guitar Pro5, and even games like FlatOut, Doom 3, Far Cry (although this took some tweaking), Race 07, etc.

There is only one program I cannot get to work the right way and that is BearShare. My solution was to install MS Virtual PC and run XP on that. I've grown up with Windows and Vista is by far the most feature-rich OS. It runs very fast and smooth, but you must have the power to do it. I don't remember what the BSoD looks like, I very rarely get compatiblity problems, and I have not yet run into hardware that doesn't work with it. Vista is a very well put together OS and I think Microsoft has taken a large step forward to compete with Apple in thier target market.

Don't put vista on your old dell it will run like crap.. promise! That's like putting racing seats, 5 point harness, and racing pedals in your mom's stock 81 accord. Might look good, but it still runs like crap.
