I know this because of when I toured the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago. This method won't work on bills that have been bleached and printed over (IE 5 dollar bills bleached and 100 dollar prints on them).

The BEST way to check if a bill is fake, is to look at it with a black light. The bar code that says "USA XX" has a diff color for each note. Try it sometime, kinda cool

I live in England so all you have to do it hold the note up to a light and a picture appears if its real, also it has a hologram. :)

but they also make pens so you draw a line or a dot and if its real it dissapears or sumthin or it turns brown.

You just told counterfeiters how to fake more legitimate currency.

you could just hold it up to the light and look at the watermark.
i don't think i'm gonna hold a magnet up to the bill at my register every time i get one.
... but still pretty cool.
