I can't understand these kind of races. They go round and round almost indefinetely (wtf is the spectacle?), without real curves, with incredibles speeds and over that a wall waiting to take your life. This is not a sport. This is simple STUPIDITY. Death is inevitable.
    Learn to be safe!

  • Best Racing

Oval racing is the greatest in the world. Especially IndyCar racing. What don't you understand? These guys are the greatest in the world. They don't race road and street course race tracks. Those tracks are for wimps. These guys are flat-out racers. RIP Paul. You were a true racer, not one of these babies who like to lift on road courses.

  • His spotter was to slow

Pauls spotter was to slow to say the yellow was out, and when they are traveling at well over 200mph its just impossible to so a car at a stand still at that speed.

Its a real shame because he was just a rookie, and had a very promising career ahead of him, judging by his previous achievments in other car classes.

The other driver was also flown into hospital by air ambulance, but was released later that day.

R.I.P Paul, you will not be forgotten

  • i heard this

from my dad the guy in that slammed into the wall only had a shock of that crash but was okay... there was no way that dana could change ''lanes'' and go higher so he would miss the car because his 2th ''hand'' that is up at the circuit told him he should go low at the corner... to bad all R.I.P. dana

It is still not known why Paul decided to not let off the gas, The Yellow flags were waved (danger on track ahead) which means all drivers must slow down and must not overtake any other car who you were previously racing. The flags were out for at least 3 seconds, i know that doesn't sound like a lot to you non-racers, but for people like us who race for a living, that is a mighty long time when your in them cars travelling at 180mph . I just hope this is a lesson for every single knuckle head who sees people racing on tv and think its easy, they take their road car, o way to fast and end up killing either themselves or someone else. RIP Paul Dana and also RIP Jorg Bastuck who died in the same week as Paul at the Catalunya Rally. I'd like to make a request to Metacafe to please remove this crash because i believe it is an insult to the repect Racing drivers earn by putting their lives on the line to have Paul's death watched again and again by someone who's watching it for enjoyment. Thank you

  • Sad, but that's racing

Being involved in racing, you know that every day at the track, not just on it, you could be seriously injured or killed. It's just part of the sport. It's sad to hear of anybody dying doing it, but Paul did know that this is a dangerous sport, as did his family and anybody else involved. Anybody who thinks you can't get hurt racing is a fool. Still, it's very sad.

Someone dies on TV and everyone feels sorry, I'm not saying that I don't feel sorry for him, but, think about this...someone in Africa or India or any other undeveloped country may be dying right now, but, who cares?? do you??

    • Is there supposed to be some waiting per...

What the world has become is intergrated, and is getting more so every day. Soon, as soon as something happens in the world that new agencies tag with words that match your personal interests, your personal communicator will grab it off the global network and store it for you, and send you an alert that new content has arrived.

Personal communicators will soon be like a TiVo for news, weather, songs, video, stock prices, friends coming into range, anything. Give it 5 years, that will be available. Get used to it, or go retire to a ranch in Wyoming.

Its in the news. The guy in the car that got hit "Paul", died!

    • no

paul was the car that hit late. Ed Carpenter was the first car that spun and got hit by Dana @ around 175mph or so. Ed came out of the hospital yesterday. The word so far is that Dana had problems steering the car because he ran over some debris. But its very true that Paul should not of have been going so fast. The spotter did tell him that there was a wreck ahead and Paul simply didn't slow down and we will never know why he didn't.

    • Have you ever?

Driving at thoes rates of speed, it is difficult for a driver to just slam on the brakes and still have control of the car. He most likely was told to go low, as the other cars before him did, and unfortunately the other car involved just slid down the track. If he had just slammed on the brakes, he might have lost control and hit the wall himself, but he was probally just thinking that it was yet another wreck and could just let off the accelerator and slide past it. It is, and sadly enough, just an accident. There were many factors that led to it, but I think that even veterans still have this happen to them...

    OMG How sad

  • Sad day.

Rookie mistake and poor spotting, and this is the result. Very unfortunate. When those yellow lights go on you have to start slowing down and his spotters should have been telling him to get out of the gas. With the first car already stopped there is no reason for Dana to be going 176mph still. There was enough time for cars in front of Dana to slow down and avoid getting involved in the wreck, so why was he still going so fast? I know the man had a few races under his belt, but his inexperience was a factor here. Condoleces to his wife and family.
