Watch any film on the Rape of Nanking and tell me that the whole of Japanese society at that time didn't deserve this.

And I'm no racist. I'm married to an Asian woman and have hosted 25 Japanese exchange students over the years.

I have seen the films and read the books and yes, I will tell you that the whole of Japanese society did not deserve to be punished for the actions of a brutal army , this is a hard topic , part of me feels the bombs , as bad as they were , were a 'necessary evil' at the time , but to justify them by blaming the nanking massacre on millions of innocent civilions is just bollocks.

The Rape of Nanking, the aggression that lead to Pearl Harbor, the treatment of POWs, these were all endemic of a culture, not just a military. There are and always have been, throughout history, cultures that may be regarded as evil or, at best, amoral. They are with us today and are sources of much pain and strife in the world.

I suppose we can expect Japan to launch at attack on some 'unsuspecting country' some time soon , but no, that won't happen since they have adhered to a policy of non agression since 1945- unlike-- china , usa , israel , u.k .korea , vietnaam ,cambodia , australia , any part of africa you care to name , palestine , lebannon , russia , serbia etc , etc , in fact your endemically violent japan has been one of the most peaceful nations on the planet.

And that is why that violence is not endemic of their culture , nations who have their needs met don't need to go to war . It is a fact that until a military dictatorship took control of japan , they wern't invading anyone , that govt deliberatly raised a generation of brutal soldiers and dragged an otherwise peaceful people into an horrific war , culminating in the firebombing of tokyo and the nuking of 2 other cities. If you want to talk about endemic violence , you could do alot better than japan as an example.

You make some excellent points. However, history has taught us that what one culture or regime defines as a "need" does not necessarily pass muster with all others. The Japanese culture, prior to Japan's aggression against China and others, was not one of tea ceremonies and cherry blosssom festivals - the warrior mentality was deeply ingrained long before the twentieth century, and there was a strong national and racial sense of superiority over all other cultures.

My only point was that you used your asian wife as a proof of not beeing racist towards Japanese. I can tell now that you are educated in this matter and your last responce showed good insight and I actually liked what you said and fully agree that hating a culture is very different from hating a people. I take back calling you a racist, sorry. But dont say that the all the people in Hiroshima deserved what happened to them, that still rings very racist cause you include people that has nothing to to with the horrors caused by Japan, they just happened to live there. It was truly one of mankinds darkest moments ever. There is absolutely no excuse.

You're absolutely right; there are always innocents that suffer as a result of the actions of their leaders or even their dominant culture. It is a terrible, unfortunate and inevitalbe consequence of war, and no one escapes.

The Japanese attack on the US was hardly a suprise. The tension between our 2 nations was building up for years. We got lazy in out Intel gathering and didnt pay any attention to to what other nations told us and what we already knew they were planning. The strike force they sent was launched in secret and was a suprise. I am in no way glad that we were attacked, Hell No. But everyone thinks our 2 nations were at peace and friendly, that was far from the trueth. I do think the bombs were needed though and im glad we had them first. Just think what someone like Stallin, or Hitler would have done with them. I doubt they would have stopped with the surrounding nations.

...but 1. It didn't have to be dropped on a civilian target, it could of been dropped out at sea etc. 2. They didn't have to drop two of them, the other on another civilian target.

were NOT civilian targets. You have been lied to. They were both locations that produced and stored huge quantities of war material and munitions. The Japanese did not have one or two central manufacturing centers. That was part of the reason nukes had to be used. Their manufacturing was distributed among thousands of small manufacturers. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were areas that had high concentrations of manufacturers and that we could get a bomber to hit and return fairly safely. Those locations were chosen by the military for military reasons.

You say I have been lied to, it's obvious, your American history books have been filled with different stories to favour your country, in England it tells us that they were civilian cities.
And never should a Nuke have to be used! You are being sold Evil under the name of Good. It is Evil to kill were you not taught this?

that Germany and Italy were beaten without the use of an atomic bomb, if Japan had the bomb first would they have used it? If they had would you condemn them for using it? or is it just Americans allowed to use it?

because Japan had invaded China... This was called the "WAR OF RAPE" for a reason. What do you think those Japanese soldiers were doing in China? The US was staying out of it militarily and tried to influence Japan's foreign policy of RAPE AND WAR with financial sanctions. Japan's response was to attack us also.

If America has the right to protect it self then why not Iran? and if u say that nuclear Iran is a threat to the world then pls go and explore through history, only America is one and only country which used nuclear bomb on Japan. Then this makes America as the most ir-responsible nuclear state. Isn’t it?
