A cordless drill/screwdriver can easily be used as a hand-crank charger for batteries... even alkalines! See for yourself! Recharging alkaline batteries is done at your own risk.
For NiMH batteries too, I forgot to mention. It's also great for emergencies, like the ice storm we're about to get here. I'll no doubt need this when our power goes out... =)

it is very good and helpful.
but I am not sure does a dead battery can really be charged back? some one would help telling me? I don't know.
Never thought to find you here, I watched ur latest video, that is amazing man! very impressive machine.

By VANRON 1197209090 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI experimented with something like this when I was in high school, but couldn't come up with a voltage regulator circuit back then. By Hoopajoo 1197206145 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCan you charge the drills battery by cranking it?
By jeff3230 1197213843 Reply Spam [+5] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI could get was 6 volts, and that's with some seriously fast cranking. I think it has to do with the circuitry in the drill itself, mainly the voltage regulation that powers the drill's motor. I wish it would work that way!
By babblin5 1197251522 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat is so amazing, I will try it definitely. It saves money man!
By Mr.illusion 1197201622 Reply Spam [+5] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut wouldn't it be dangerous for some batteries that can't be recharged?
With dry cell batteries, like Heavy Duty, etc., but Alkalines work fine. I expected them to get hot, but that didn't even happen.

people you should take a heavy drill with yours while using some tool working by AA batteries. peefff
this guy is crazy !!
That this works for NiCd, NiMH, and alkaline batteries; are these the only types that work? Or will this work on any non dry-cell battery? Also, it sounded like the longest you charged a battery was for around 30 seconds; how long is too long to charge? Is there a point at which the battery will not receive any more charge?
By RickyTheFish 1197254227 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCause it's never a good idea, which is why regular battery chargers have a shut off when the battery is at full charge. I'd recommend pausing every 15 seconds and checking the warmth of the battery, which would be a possible sign of overcharging. NIMH and NiCads are a different story, as they generally DO get warm when charging, even with a wall charger.
By babblin5 1197264723 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveRegular Batteries WILL NOT hold a charge so dont waste your time on those. They will go from fully charged to dead in about 15 minutes. I have a battery charger so I know.
By cowsgonemadd3 1197243672 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMy charging experiments show this process to be absolutely true and real and successful.
I am using a Nicad/ Nickel-Metal Hydride wall charger with no problems.
I rechecked my 2 AA Duracells in a tungsten bulb flashlight this morning after 10 days of sitting. The flashlight is still bright. This works great!
First, Great video man. Your a natural Kipkay!
Second, Imagine if you had a second batterie drill, your could put drills on both ends of a drill bit and power the drill. So instead of a hand crank, you would have a drill powered batterie charger! It would take almost no time at all!
This is not kipkays video.
