  • This is the best

I think this is the best math trick I've ever seen. Now I can amaze my friends. I want to buy your DVD's but I don't have any US dollars. But never mind. Never mind, I think soon after I watched all of your shows, I may be the best maths student in my school. Because I always get bad results in my maths. Do you have fractions?

  • how to make it work?

OK so you have to carry in both directions

I would like to thank glad2teach for making this video, but I think that the instructions it gives dont adequately cover all possible situations (had to try the trick several times on 567 before I got the right answer and realized that the term "carry" was being used in a different way than I am used to it (ie "carrying" the 10's place of the number, but then keeping the number in-tact for further operations).

here is the example that I made for myself and had trouble with using the videos instructions:
    567/9=63

    the first digit is 5
    5+6=11
carry the tens place to the left, KEEPING 11 AS THE RESULT FOR THE 2ND STEP FOR THR PURPOSE OF ADDING TO THE LAST AND FINAL DIGIT, BUT KEEPING 1 AS THE RESULT FOR THE PURPOSE TABULATING THE FINAL RESULT!!!!!!!
    11+7=18 as the remainder
    9 goes into 18 twice
thus you have 51, and add 1 to the tens place (from the 11) and add 2 to the ones place (from the 18/2)
    that makes 63.

  • try this...

    900 divide by 9... ;)

By yyaoming 1204112946 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
  • 9000 / 9 = 1000

I take the 9 and copy it down... 9. Ok whatever.

    • It still works

If you follow proper procedure, the initial 9 you copy down will change to a zero with a 1 to the left. Followed by two more zeros.
      9000 divided by 9
      copy the 9
      9 plus 0 equals 9(99)
      again 9 plus 0 equals 9(999)
now the last digit 9 plus 0 equals 9
but this time u put that 9 alone and see how many times 9 will go into it.
      (999__9)
      once so...
you carry the one back to the last 9
it becomes 10. you dont write 10 but scratch out the 9 for a zero and carry the 1 to the next 9 and so on.

    amm..
trick only works for 9... neat....but limited.

By mahees 1197790552 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • Not like that ...

it can work with numbers close to base 10 like 9, 8 , 7 , 11, 12 ,13 etc with slight modification. You have an even better trick in Vedic Math ( called one line division ) for 2 digit divisors
