It seems everyone tries but get this wrong? I have found the perfect proportions. So no more glue balls. This isn't slime. This video is my recipe for making a silly putty like substance. I am a chemist and it works perfectly. It is a polyvinyl acetate polymer. Metric measurements 25mL glue, 20mL water, 15mL Borax SolutionNo matter how many times I do this, I never get bored making it. It acts like snot but it isn't sticky. It flows like slime but isn't greasy. The best part is you can make this "Silly Putty Like" substance at home. All you need is the Borax (Sodium Borate) and Glue.

so, wht does the paper say 20mL, 15mL, and 25mL,
but the step by step directions all say 1/4 cup?

If you add
polystyrene beads to it, whatever size you prefer, you'll end up with a product called "FLOAM". And that of course can be molded into any number of shapes.
Google for a recipe for homemade floam .
Most kids love it.
But some do-gooders believe borax is toxic.

Cool! How about Exercise Putty?
Looks fun and easy. I'll try it with my neighbor kid who's interested in science.

Kent, do you have any idea how to make exercise putty similar to Theraputty? I live in a third-world country and can't find it here.

Does it matter
What kind of glue you use, there is clear liquid glue and then the white one used on tree mostly .... does the cemical blend need some ingreedient to be the right one.

- You can also find 20 Mule Team Borax
  at your local home depot. It's cheap there, too, and comes in huge boxes.

just a basic polymer
we did something very close to this in my HazMat class. It is fun to play with, but ours must of had different proportions because after a while it turned completely solid. About the texture of a bouncy ball.

Not silly putty...
As the name implies, the original product is a putty-like substance. This creation would better be likened to Gak. We got to make this in our junior high science class long ago, and I always thought it was neat that such simple ingredients could be used to make something people used to make money off of.
