These may very well be the result of weathering. It is hard to believe in these things when there are so many obvious nutcases claiming to be experts on the subject; discredits anything that may be even remotely plausible.

When I was much younger I was hiking in the New Mexico mountain and when I looked left one day I saw a "Witch's face". Complete with hat and pointy nose. It was also, very obviously, the result of natural weathering.
