Clare: I'd been out for a walk,
and I came back with the dog.
My sister was with the children.
And she said,
"The boat's been found."
Then I became aware
there were several complete strangers on the front lawn
and a couple of police cars.
Just my instant reaction was,
"Get the children out of here."
Winspear: You can imagine the atmosphere,
the feeling of shock.
Clare didn't feel
she had the courage at the time
to tell the children.
So I went to them.
Simon: My father's boat had been found,
but he wasn't in it.
It was so different from the homecoming that we'd expected.
It was just like,
"This is the wrong story. This is...
this is not what's supposed to be happening.
This is... it can't be."
