No and I have no desire to. A great father and I’m not just saying that because I’m on camera right now. We talk every day every other day. He called me from - he was overseas in Afghanistan over the Fourth of July. He called me in Germany on his way there and he checks in. He wants to know everything that’s going on in my life –not just politics. He wants to know about personal life - “Are you dating? Are you happy? How are you friends? Are you doing okay?” He’s fantastic. He always makes time for me.
What about the Republican party and women? You think Obama will get more women votes than the Republican candidate? He’s a great guy.
I think unfortunately the rhetoric that has happened in the primary in the primary so far with all this conversation about whether or not women should have access to birth control has done a lot of damage. And I worry about it in the future. Today would Obama get the women’s vote? Probably. I think Gov. Romney has a lot of opportunity to pick up where Obama is failing but listen - there’s been a lot of damage done to the women’s vote during the primaries at this election. Yeah.
You’ve expressed admiration for Hilary Clinton in the past right? You describe yourself as a progressive Republican.
Yeah. We don’t agree on anything politically but I just love strong women in politics and strong women in the media. She really is who she is and she’s out there. I think she’s a really great role model for strong women. Yeah.
Pretty good secretary of state? Are you therefore in the distinct minority?
Yeah. Great secretary of state. No I think there’s a lot of moderate and progressive Republicans out there.
Was it tough growing up in a political household? Where are they?
No my parents were great. They really kept us sheltered. I grew up in Phoenix. So I didn’t grow up in DC. I had a really normal childhood. I rode horses and hiked in the desert. The only time it got hard was when my dad ran for president the first time. But I have nothing to compare it to but I have a great family unit. They’re not on TV. They’re average Americans in America. They’re not pendants on TV.
How do you see this election going? You’re supporting Romney. Talk radio is rightwing.
I’m supporting Romney. They’re not on talk radio. They’re not in the media. I think it’s average Americans that just –again 20-somethings grow up with gay friends. This isn’t this controversial crazy thing. This is something that is very normal for the majority of Americans in their 20s.
Are you ardently supporting Romney? How do you think this election is going to go? Give me an analytical. Give me an objective view if you can.
Yes I am. I would never vote for President Obama. I really hope that Gov. Romney chooses a formidable vice presidential candidate. I worry that if he chooses someone boring and middle of the road I don''t think it’s going to get the momentum that he needs. I think objectively if the economy keeps going the way that it is; if Obama keeps coming out saying he’s only raised 60000 jobs80000 jobs per month - Americans just aren’t going to stand for it. It’s not enough. I think Romney could very well win if the economy keeps going the way that it will.
Do you have a favorite? You ardently support same-sex marriage.
Chris Christy. I love Chris Christy. I call him Tony Soprano. I just love him and his straight talk. When he’s angry he’s angry. When he’s fine he’s fine. I just think he’s interesting and provocative. Ardently.
You think the weight would hurt him though - that people would look at him not as a … I agree with you. Your father does not.
I think America would relate to it. America is not a skinny country. I just toured it. I know. For me I kind of like it. He’s like “Yeah I’m fat. Get over it.” I like that. No.
What kind of father is your dad? Is that a source of argument?
A great father and I’m not just saying that because I’m on camera right now. We talk every day every other day. He called me from - he was overseas in Afghanistan over the Fourth of July. He called me in Germany on his way there and he checks in. He wants to know everything that’s going on in my life –not just politics. He wants to know about personal life - “Are you dating? Are you happy? How are you friends? Are you doing okay?” He’s fantastic. He always makes time for me. It’s not argument. Well I came out of the No Hate campaign which is a campaign - it’s in support of same-sex marriage. There’s a picture that goes along with it. You have duct tape on your face and “No Hate” on your cheek. He wasn’t terribly pleased when I did that because it got a lot of attention. Then my mother did it because I convinced her to do it and he wasn’t terribly pleased. He doesn't like it when it turns into this thing that it pits my family against each other in the media. Do we go home and fight about it? No
He’s a great guy. Do you think Obama’s been okay on gay rights? Coming out for gay marriage?
Yeah. He’s publicly come out for gay marriage but he hasn’t done anything regarding legislation. I think if he were really supporting it he could jam legislation down America’s throat like he just did with immigration. For me I don’t understand why the gay community is somehow satisfied with this. For me if you change gay and put it in the term “interracial marriage
You describe yourself as a progressive Republican. But Romney is hardly supportive of that.
Yeah. No don’t quote me. I know he’s against same-sex marriage. I don’t know about civil unions. I think he believes it will be state-by-state issue. Listen Republicans have a lot of places to go. But I’m not a one-issue voter.
Are you therefore in the distinct minority? I would have gathered you would have supported Huntsman.
No I think there’s a lot of moderate and progressive Republicans out there. No.
Where are they? Socially liberal.
They’re not on TV. They’re average Americans in America. They’re not pendants on TV. You know he didn’t inspire me. I just like grit and he didn’t seem to be very much of a fighter. I also didn’t understand sort of - I don’t understand how you can work for the Obama administration as a Republican on a very basic level. I know he said he chose to serve his country which is a great thing for him to say I just - he was not my candidate.
Talk radio is rightwing. Coming up - you asked she’s telling. Meghan answers your Twitter questions. The book is “America You Sexy Bitch.” Be right back. We’re back with Meghan McCain. Let’s get to some Twitter questions. Melva Williams wants to know - do you think Romney has a chance to defeat Obama?
