This is not a lake of water. It used to be dry land with homes on it. Today, it is a huge lake of mud. In one of the worst and biggest environmental accidents of recent time, molten mud continues to flow from beneath the earth's surface, displacing hundreds of villages and residents in East Java. It started off as a small pool of mud which has now grown into a frightening inland sea. Geologists have estimated that the mud will continue to flow for the next 30, and maybe 100 years! Every day, 125,000 cubic metres is being ejected from beneath the ground.
