Watch 'Dive The World: Sudan'. Translated, Sudan means `the land south of Egypt' and is home to the pyramids of Meroe – tombs of the pharaohs of the 25th dynasty. Many wall carvings and inscriptions remain undeciphered and are likely to hold many untold secrets about the ancient Sudanese. The reefs around the coast were chosen by Jacques Cousteau for some of his early expeditions and allow the modern diver to encounter Grey reef sharks, Hawksbill turtles and, further offshore, schools of hammerheads.
