We all take part in the social fantasy we live in. Parklife is a screening video that is part of a mixed media installation project that deals with our tendency to build social illusion and the embarrassing revelations that follow its collapse. Parallels are being drawn between contemporary developments and the build up and breakdown of totalitarian communism 20 years ago. As the installation the video deals with it the issues in a playful way were emphasize is on building up the indefinable feeling that comes with the fantastic atmosphere. In the video a character from the artist’s older art work, the young cowboy or the moneyman, comes to life in the park as the Illusionist playing out his childhood fantasies of producing sugar cakes, candy and exotic fruit. There is sincerity and sarcasm, humor and awkwardness, beauty and danger. In the work the park, which is an, abandoned amusement park in former East Berlin, and the performance, becomes a metaphor for the enterprise of building up an illusion and its subsequent breakdown.

The video is shot on RED camera.
