SYNOPSIS: S.Lucy rips her eyeballs out to see the light in the darkness. SaintLucy is represented, in the Catholic iconography ,in the act of exhibiting her eyeballs in the palms of her hands:in order to escape the intentions of a suitor enamored of her eyes, the saint, being consecrated body and soul to Christ, rips them out. The removal of her eyes indicates the possibility/necessity of seeing into the darkness within ourselves, beyond ordinary vision. The video tells about this gesture using different supports .Saint Lucy is celebrated the 13th of December, the day of the year with the fewest hours of sunlight ,the black heart of the winter ,when nature and human beings are at the peak of retreat and introversion.Evokes the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone: pursuing vision and light in the darkness. Saint Lucy, bearer of other lights and the North Star ,which replaces the sun in the endless nights of Northern Europe, of sailors in the Mediterranean and of nomads in the deserts and steppes in the northern hemisphere, being the vertex of the polar axis and indicating north, the only reference with which to orient oneself and find oneâs latitude. Her cult is always linked to water and navigation and the will/necessity of going beyond: overseas, the supernatural, beyond the known realm.
