As the saying goes, it's the little things that count. For this solo, we'll examine some of the little things that will make a big difference in your solo.
Keep a close eye on that inset camera shot to see what my right hand is up to. The middle finger is attacking some of the notes, and you can tell how the tone differs from notes attacked with a pick. When using my fingers I like to snap a note by pulling up from beneath the string, kind of like the way a bass player pops.
This solo also uses some half-step bends, which color the lines significantly different than whole-step bends. In fact, the first example (seen in Video 2) starts with a whole-step bend; but rather than releasing the note all the way back down to pitch, I goose it back up half way. I love that greasy sound of a whole-step bend releasing to a half-step bend.
