all clear!! i see, i did not notice that, but now i see

interaction, the pressure difference due to the water being forced past the vessel and the 'wall' this effectively sticks the vessel to the 'wall' resulting in apparent loss of steering, the following collision was a result of poor ship handling on behalf of the pilot, no not like an airline pilot, ships have pilots for certain areas (ports, special ocean areas, canals etc etc). But I feel this video is tribute to the sound construction of LPG vessels, as we may be getting that ship back lol

Actually, this is the collision between the Maersk Hollyhead (sister ship of my previous vessel Maersk Humber) and a Bulk carrier. It is a common myth that it was steering gear failure, what actually happened is the vessel was navigating in a narrow channel, I know it looks like open water but remember there is alot of ship underwater too and the vessel only had a narrow channel of water at sufficient depth in which to navigate, with a 'wall' on either side, what happened is something called

I study at a danish maritime academy, and we have studied this case. there was a steering engine problem on the light blue ship, which made it turn port. you can see the waves made by the propeller on the 2nd picture, which clearly indicates the hard turn to port. As we say in my company - Turn to port, go to court :-)

i think with over 10 years of expiriance on ships (ab - ch mate - capt) i do know what i am talking about, and this is so easy to avoid if people just pay attention an if altering course is not able, just zero pitch will be enough
