    but the red army utilized unconventional methods that required incredible bravery and risk.

    it's easy to see why the germans would think of them as devils or fanatics. They had never seen that kind of determination before.

    keep in mind the russians were still losing ground right up until the winter started.
    So they can't really comprehend why they just didn't surender when the Germans had control of most of the city.

    Russian soldiers fighting were not fanatics. They were the first army to ever put much of a fight against Germany armies that were so used to easy victories against the Poles, French and Greeks.

    Hitler should have left the fighting to the generals. However, he thought himself better than them, insisting he was the only one with experience. The Allis actually made plans to assassinate Hitler, but realized that whoever replaced him would actually do a better job.
