Another nice song from Loreena McKennitt, enjoy.
Lyrics:
Bonfires dot the rolling hillsides.
Figures dance around and around
to drums that pulse out echoes of darkness;
moving to the pagan sound.

Somewhere in a hidden memory
images float before my eyes
of fragrant nights of straw and of bonfires,
dancing till the next sunrise.

I can see the lights in the distance
trembling in the dark cloak of night.
Candles and lanterns are dancing, dancing
a waltz on all souls night.

Figures of cornstalks bend in the shadows
held up tall as the flames leap high.
The Green Knight holds the holly bush
to mark where the old year passes by.

Bonfires dot the rolling hillsides.
Figures dance around and around
to drums that pulse out echoes of darkness;
moving to the pagan sound.

Standing on the bridge that crosses
the river that goes out to the sea.
The wind is full of a thousand voices;
they pass by the bridge and me.

  • Paganism still ...

    Paganism still holds strong. I am from a long line of pagans, and have followed in the footsteps of my ancestors. Sadly, many people have turned to the new age wicca instead of holding on to the old world ways.

  • Paganism still ...

    Paganism still exists and is growing rapidly worldwide. The Pagans of old turned to christianity for two primary reasons, their kings decreed it and they otherwise would be murdered for being heretics.

  • Well, most of ...

    Well, most of Europe "dumped" paganism asap. But many of whom didn't have a choice....for the simple fact that their emperors or kings made Christianity the official religion. But European paganism didn't require people to vehemently adhere to a set of tenets...it's not really an organized religion, so people were mostly easily preached to and converted easily, unlike other religions like Shintoism or Hinduism, which are just as strict as any organized religion.

  • Actually, I'm ...

    Actually, I'm pretty certain she is Protestant, of the Canadian United Church. However, she's unafraid to embrace her Celtic heritage and part of that is being pagan, I think she simply believes in a bigger "God" than most Christians believe in. In fact, she does more than that, she embraces many cultures and traditions across the world. From Christian to Pagan to Islam, etc.
