hey, it's really called hong kongers, usually people shorten it to hongkies but they don't like that. It's like calling an Africn America N****r cantonese is a language. People from Canton are cantonese. Canton is Guangdong and that's in china. That's why they don't call themselves chinese. Chinese usually means people from mainland China in HK.
