A "then and now" look at the filming locations from the 1969 western "True Grit," starring John Wayne, Kim Darby, Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper. The film was shot in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and we found many of the filming locations nearly 40 years later.

This is an extended version of my previous True Grit video.

Actually, I knew most of the places and stumbled across the rest. The longest part of making this was making screen caps of the movie before I went down there to film so I could stand in the exact spot to film and photograph the scenes! Thanks for watching!

spectre111 (1 month ago) said, "The only confederate John Wayne ever played and his best role, in my opinion!"

Sure, the Duke's terrific in "True Grit," but even better in "The Searchers" (1956), where he plays the role of his life as Ethan Edwards--ex-Confederate soldier!

  • Thanks for all your ...

Thanks for all your hard work on this video. True Grit is not only the best Wayne movie, it is one of the best westerns of all time, and I might even say one of the flat out best films ever of any genre. The dialog alone makes it stand out. The vernacular is much more realistic than you get in many period pieces. The scenes with Strother Martin, the horse dealer, and Matty are pure genius.

  • To continue Thats ...

To continue Thats the directors job and most actors cant make that leap. Its a different skill set. But the Golden Globe nominating committee should have known better. Then again maybe there was a dearth of new talent that year and Campbell actually was one of the best of a poor crop. Im a patient man, ObamaRules4Ever . Ive instructed my computer to remind me in 26 years to check back and see what you think of the movie after you turn 40.
