One of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever listened to.
I think it was written by Shel Silverstein - the man is a genius.
Her voice is the kind you get after years of two much brandy and cigarettes.

I was 21 when this came out and 37 seemed so far off. Now I am older and wiser, and believe me you just don't know how things are going to pan out in your life and how you are going to feel about it.This song is very powerful.

I always wondered about the ending of this song. It sounds like she climbed up to the roof to jump and end it all. But then bowed in curtsy to the man who lead her down to a long white car that waited past the crowd.
An ambulance? Which means she got help?
Or an hearse which gives way to the meaning "She knew she'd found forever."
Any one have any thoughts on this?
