Daughter of Thingol and Melian, Lúthien was an immortal who made an Orphic journey to choose mortality, so she could love the mortal man, Beren. Together they wrested from Morgoth's crown one of the Silmarilli -- the bride-price set by Lúthien's father, who allowed the couple to wed, even though Carcharoth, the wolf, swallowed the jewel (and Beren's hand). Composed and performed by Eileen Marie Moore Lyrics by Edward Risden Performed May 11, 2012 at the 47th International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI. Copyright 2012
