  • I know it isnt ...

I know it isnt possible with that particular drive, but swapping the platters has worked well for me in the past. I tape the edges in a few places to keep the platters relative and swap the stack. it is much faster and you are not prone to impact the heads. especially on a drive like this that remove them from the platter when they park.

  • Actually, he IS ...

Actually, he IS wearing a mask. However, you are quite correct about the hairnet, PLUS he's got his arms uncovered! He even is reaching over the open drive with those arms. I shudder to think of the hair and skin cells sloughing off and landing on the platters.

acsdata, this video amazes me, and I wanted to congratulate for the excellent instructional video and I have subscribed to your video feeds.

A question, I'm going on the path for home business, so I would be much appreciated to know what program you used to identify and images the hard drive from repaired hard drive to the backup drive.

    Thanks again!

  • Chances are your ...

Chances are your data is recoverable. If you swapped out the electronics, it may be an issue where the adaptive information that is stored on the electronics is not compatible. Or, if the drive is indeed detected in BIOS, but still inaccessible, you could have a corrupt translator module. That is a very common problem in WD drives.

  • Thank goodness for ...

Thank goodness for servo tracking drives - you would never get away so easily with an old stepper motor head actuator.
