  • Your still ...

Your still comparing accomplishments rather than attributes. And Tyson wouldnt have fought qaulity boxers like Holyfield and Lewis anyway. After all, its the begining of his career., Ali didnt fight Frazier right off the back and Im not convinced that the bums Ali fought were better bums than the ones Tyson fought, bums are bums.

  • I hear what you're ...

I hear what you're saying but those fighters had great conditioning! They just used the old school methods of training that doesn't really promote the same kind of muscle growth as the new and updated ways, but does much more for your stamina! Why do you think that fighters right now are starting to go back to the old methods? Methods like chopping wood, putting a car in neutral and pushing it uphill, and running in the mountains at high elevation. They realize that the old methods were better!

  • It has nothing to ...

It has nothing to do with slower starts or faster starts! In fact a faster start is better for reasons of conditioning. Tyson only dominated because there were no real good fighters that began to surface in the heavyweight division at that time until Holyfield, Lewis and Bowe came up. At 23 when Tyson was beaten by Buster Douglas, that had nothing to do with him losing his prime because at 23 you haven't reached your prime yet. It had everything to do with him losing discipline!

  • Good list. As far ...

Good list. As far as ranking careers I would have the same list. But if I ranked primes it would be 1. Tyson 2. Ali 3. Joe Luis 4. Larry Holmes 5. George Foreman 6. Lennox Lewis 7. Rocky Marciano 8. Sonny Liston 9. Joe Frazier 10. Holyfield

  • And Lewis got off ...

And Lewis got off to a slow start to his career. Tyson dominated, you'd be surprised the difffirence thats makes as far as will to train later in thier career.

Well most sa that that Ali's form was horrible but he made up for his mistakes with his Agility. I just don't think he could pull that off against Tyson

  • Tyson was past his ...

Tyson was past his prime in those fights but so were Holyfield and Lewis! Lewis is 2 years older than Tyson and Holyfield is 4 years older than Tyson. I agree that Cus D Matto was a great trainer but he was also known for keeping his fighters away from the top fighters in the division. Cus D Matto also did that when he trained Floyd Patterson! He told Patterson not to fight Sonny Liston because Liston would destroy him! I definitely give Tyson credit for being the youngest ever!

  • He went toe to toe ...

He went toe to toe his fair share! But boxing is the name of the game, not slug fest! Ali beat the best of his day. I'm not putting Tyson down because I think that he was very gifted in an athletic but in sports, it's 80% mental and 20% physical. Tyson was never up to par mentally and that's definitely not his fault but it's a fact none the less! Ali was so strong mentally that he could overcome physical advantages that other fighters may have had.

I didn't say conditioning doesn't matter! I said muscle definition doesn't matter! If muscle mattered, guys like Kelly Pavlik wouldn't be champ!

Ali beat Frazier by a landslide in their second fight! Frazier was a great fighter! Make no mistake about it! But Ali was a little better!

  • However I think if ...

However I think if Ali managed to take him into the later round than Ali would win, ethier by a late ko or decision. But my piont is that would be harder for him to do with how careful a fighter Tyson is. Tyson NEVER punched himself out until later in his career. But if you watch his first 20 fights you will see the precision and speed and how well he stalks his opponents and waits for the openings.

  • And I only made the ...

And I only made the conditioning point to stae that Ali hadn't dealt with a power fighter who was as fast as Tyson. Which is true dont you agree. Not Liston not Frazier and not Foreman. So I just visualize this fight and see Tyson cutting off ali's speed and delivering good hard blows to the body and opening up the head.

Im not saying that Ali doesnt have a chance im a die hard Ali fan, but he would have to do a great job of staying away from Tyson power.

  • Dont hold Tyson's ...

Dont hold Tyson's career agaist him for this discussion because I hate that. Im not Talking about the Tyson that got bit Holyfields ear enraged, or the washed up Tyson that got dropped by Lewis. Im talking about the Tyson fresh out of Cus D'Matto's gym who became the youngest world champion of all time

  • And foreman hit so ...

And foreman hit so hard but he was wild. Ali outsmarted him. Tyson would not have swung away at Ali's rope a dope like Foreman did. And had Ali went toe to toe with Foreman he would have lost, He could have before the vietnam ordeal but definately not after.

  • Tyson and Frazier ...

Tyson and Frazier dont compare. Tyson is more selective, Tyson is more patient, Tyson is just as much if not more powerful and Tyson is quicker even though according to you conditioning doesent matter. And considering how close the Frazier Ali fights were don't you think Tyson would win.

  • Frazier wasnt ...

Frazier wasnt destroyed, Frazier beat Ali, then there was the trilla in Manilla which is well known for being a close and brutal fight, and then Ali won by decision. So these where a series of good close fights.

  • First of all, you ...

First of all, you cant hold it agaist Tyson that Holmes and Spinks weren't in thier prime when Tyson fought them. Second, Tyson still would have beat them in thier prime, no discussion. Third, Tyson wasn't exactly in his prime when he got beat by Holyfield, and was nowhere near it when fought Lewis. And you don't seriously intend to tell me that Holyfield would have beat Tyson in 1988 because then you would be just trying to be anti Tyson,

  • Muscle means ...

Muscle means nothing! In fact, as far back as you could go, the fighters that had less muscle mass were the better fighters..There are some exceptions! Fighters back then fought 15+ rounds and fighters today are gassed after 8 to 12 rounds. It's about conditioning, it's not about big muscles.

  • I didn't say no ...

I didn't say no good fighters! I said that today, the sport of boxing hasn't created as many good fighters. That's a pretty nice list you have there but now let me name old fighters in each weight class that would destroy that list! Sugar Ray Robinson KO7 Floyd Mayweather! Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis would beat both Klitkschos on the same night! Marvin Hagler KO8 Kelly Pavlik! You know already know what I think of Tyson. FYI Joe Frazier was Destroyed by Ali and Forman! Do your homework!

  • Ali fought and beat ...

Ali fought and beat the best! Let's see! Tyson beat a washed-up Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks! Tyson didn't beat any of the great fighters of his time. Holyfield and Lewis were the other 2 great fighters and Tyson didn't have a single win. Not to mention that Tyson ducked George Forman and Evander Holyfield to fight Frank Bruno and Buster Douglas!Tyson showed guts in defeat against Lewis but he still didn't beat him. Ali beat Forman, Liston, Frazier, Norton, Shavers, Lyles! Ali ko8Tyson.

  • Comparing eras is ...

Comparing eras is difficult because the further back you go the less is known about conditioning, and Tyson is obviously a higher percentage of muscle then anyone in Ali's era. Guys that could punch as hard as Tyson wern't as fast and thats why Ali could outclass so many power boxers, but wtih Tyson thats not he case
