nealkang last september this was posted by an AP hater. mind you i have no clue pineda was being considered by journey then and wasn't even hired yet but the racism is obvious!!

nealkang: i am an avid supporter of GOOD MUSIC regardless. the last cd i bought were Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. what irk me is the nonsense putdown of pineda who is an excellent voice for journey's music. that is what this is all about.

I'm sure you know my perspectives regarding this whole Journey/SP/AP thing, and I know you are an avid supporter of AP, even though your motives may not be all musical ones. I think it's time for us to move on to others as to some other constructive discourse.

nealkang: that's true because the music industry for the last decade has been pushing the BRITNEEYYY, MILEYYYY RAP and HipHop..where have you been. Even BON JOVI sold out to country western music..LOL. and yes it will be tough for Journey even with Pineda singing. THE SP angle is worn out. If he came out today even with the same voice the GENRE being pushed today is not the good music he sang in the 80s.

6claire9, It sounds like you're holding your breath on Journey's new material. But if I were you, I wouldn't. For reference, The Eagles couldn't produce any "new" hits from their last year's album, even with original vocalists. And yes, the CD has been sold through Wal-Mart, just like the upcoming Journey CD would be. And another thing you don't seem to undersand is that when the crowd would react, it'd be a combination of salute to SP's legacy and its amusement about a new guy in the lineup.

Philipines is the 3rd largest english speaking country in the world after our great USA and England. That's right - 95% speaks english. It is the 6th largest retirement haven for Americans and first in ASIA. It is the only predominantly christian country in SE ASIA 90% christian. It has a strong hollywood connection.

I love all of Journey's music =)

nealkang: I disagree, if that was the case, Journey would have told him to record the GH ala Perry but listening to the walmart clips, he sang with his own voice. He sang with his own voice in Chile and the crowd whoop it up. As long as he delivers the song with his powerful timbre, I see no problem.

Love all music of SP no one will ever sound like him, he's the best, as far as everyone argueing over AP well we'll see how many number ones they produce? If they honestly think he's that good time will tell. But for me Steve's the one!

6claire9, I don't think it's that AP DOES NOT want to sound just like SP. He CAN'T, even if he wanted to. They're two different people, after all. And that's where my point lies. That AP wouldn't sound even as close to SP right now, if he didn't have any intention of doing so. Can YOU sound like someone else without trying? To be honest, I believe AP's success depends on how closely he'd sound to SP all throughout his career. And that's my honest opinion, which has no partiality in anyone.

nealkang: i for one believes that journeys management let pineda run with his own voice on GH and revelation..no more of that raspiness to mimic Perry...

nealkang: VERY TRUE until they come up with new hits...pineda may try to sound like perry but I for one never thought he sounded like perry and his new CD clips proves that fact..pineda DOES NOT SOUND LIKE perry on GH..

6claire9, That may be true, but the problem is most songs AP would get the most applause for in Journey's concerts will be the Journey signature songs "patterned and molded" by Steve Perry. AP has no choice but to try sounding as close to Perry as he could, because that's what the fans will want to hear. Well, this is becoming redundant now, but Steve Perry's influence on Journey is THAT great and profound. And it takes a true, traditional Journey fan to really understand it.

nealkang: not arguing with you..I am only looking at their voices. Perry is a complete artist and musician that's fact. he has written song with jon and neil. OK I don't believe journey hired pineda because they are getting another perry. that is true except for the voice and singing ability. IMO they hired pineda because he can sing journey's music very well.

jumpygirl3, I know where you're coming from. There were times when I had similar regrets as you do. btw, now that you've exposed some of your own chronology, your age may be a public information, huh? lol!!! I'm only kidding...^^

6claire9, Come on. Let's get real here. SP is an icon, whereas AP was a cover singer throughout his career, and he's only starting. And on top of it, he's singing the songs originally written and sung by SP. It's not that I'm hoping he'll be destroyed or anything, but making his own mark will extremely difficult. Point of reference? Steve Augeri. He was far from a poor singer in his own right, but the problem for most Journey fans was he's no Steve Perry. Not fair? Maybe. But it's the reality.

6claire9, OK. let's get this straight. I don't think AP is necessarily a "bad" singer. In fact, I think he's better than most newer grunge or alternative rock singers, who have no real vocal range or singing ability. Having said that, we also have to note the fact that AP wasn't drafted by Journey because he's as good or better than SP ever was. And another thing is, despite the fact that they're trying to put out new stuff, their main stay will still be the old Perry songs. Wait and see.

nealkang: but we know and you know it's not ALL about pineda's singing why those comments were made though some would deny the real reason. those comments were already being posted last December when it was rumored that pineda might be hired. and when he was hired the comments that came out in january and february were even worse. MR was no exception although a lot of dissenters have changed their minds since the chile and vegas concert came out specially when they heard clips of the new songs.

nealkang: well i heard very high notes in 'after all these years' and i dont detect any hardship. truth is it's too early to tell. journey has a cd out in june and that MIGHT settle the issue but it's way too early to tell. all the BS about 'AP better than SP' and 'SP is the best singer ever' is a matter of opinion or fanaticism of a few from both sides. It's fact that when Journey hired Pineda, there were a lot of really foul comment about AP and this were based on Pineda's youtube samples.
