The ship carried 2 million barrels of crude oil. It is as big as 3 aircraft carriers and you can fit approx 3 football (soccer) pitches on it's main deck. It's max draft was about 28 metres.

  • This ship was built ...

This ship was built in Korea by Daewoo and would take as little as 7 months to build.
Once the keel is laid and all the frames and foundations are constructed the machinery, which is constructed in the engine shops or imported can be lifted onto the foundations.

Wow, a fantastic, if noisy, tour of an engine room! How long does it take to build something like a 300,000 tonne supertanker? More specifically, how long for the complete construction of the engine room?
    Great post by the way!

  • OCL Liverpool Bay ...

OCL Liverpool Bay class container ships which I sailed on in the 1970's were driven by twin laval steam turbines which each geanerated 35,000shp. At 50,000 tonnes and a service speed of 28 knots they consumed about 420 tonnes of HFO a day. Pretty expensive to run. Needless to say they were eventually converted to twin screw diesels (sulzer) and the service speed was dropped to about 23 knots.

  • Man that ship is ...

Man that ship is not very old, those alfa laval purifiers don't even look dirty. 100 tons of fuel/day is not much compared to the older ships, probably the exhaust valve and twin injectors that help.
