I am so glad to see a video like this on YouTube. A lot of riders think training is all about the discipline. It is very refreshing to see that this video is about rewarding and the correctness of the aids. : )

I agree with all of this
Gorgeous horse
Makes sense. Lovely horse with a big walk and a big tail! I wish I could ride like that!

Maybe he's talking about using an opening inside rein to "lead" your horse into the turn. Or he might be talking about flexion at the poll. (In addition to using your seat and legs, you should flex your horse at the poll with your inside rein while you turn his shoulders with the outside rein. (See my video on the Connecting Half Halt under rbsavoie) Hope this helps a little. Maybe he can show you what he means.
By janesavoie [Affiliate User] 1212174135 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYour videos are fab thanks.I have a Q if you have time to answer.I have always understood that you turn primarily with seat, legs & outside rein, but I now have jumping lessons & my instructor talks about importance of a direct inside turning rein,to get the horse to engage more, esp in canter.I am confused, and as we have a language barrier,I can't get to the bottom of this with him.He is a respected rider and I presume he knows what he is talking about.Any clarification v much appreciated! Thanks
By karinaclarke [Affiliate User] 1212077842 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHi,
I am 13 and I'm running for the 2008 Sheridan, Wyo Rodeo Jr. Princess, but don't know how to do dressage in about 1 month do you give lessons and where do you live? GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Jaccko,
I can see how things can be confusing with such a short video clip. To see one example of how and when I use the inside rein, search under rbsavoie and go to the video on the Connecting Half Halt. Thanks.
Jakko, is dressage turning with the inside rein can throw off the horses balance, so therefore turning usually consists of the seat and leg aids. Sure you use the inside rein but more so for other disiplins.
By xxxalicejanexxx [Affiliate User] 1210989666 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo basically your saying we maze well not have an inside rein because there is no use for it? I mean come on you turn the horse with both reins, not just outside. Theres two sides to the bit, therefore both sides must be used evenly.
By Jaccko14 [Affiliate User] 1210400499 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveVery nice video, very clear speaking voice unlike some other videos, really helpful 5*
By bulletwing [Affiliate User] 1210359761 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhat a nice horse and rider.
By dressagegal [Affiliate User] 1210108391 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm sorry It "looks" that way to you, but I NEVER force my horses to do anything. To achieve "roundness", I close my legs lightly, and lightly close my outside hand in a fist. The pressure from both my legs and my outside rein is just a hair more than the light pressure of the saddle pad against his side and the weight of the rein itself (a few ounces).
By rbsavoie [Affiliate User] 1210028143 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebeautiful horse! :D
By Xx12RachRach12xX [Affiliate User] 1209865064 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow about...instead of forcing him into roundness, why doesnt he carry his own head?
just a question.
LOL EVERYONE uses Friesians for dressage.
Wow he's really responsive, must have taken a LOT of time and work into training him.
