actually the final part of the movie is when all humans are forced to drop their AT fields and collectively merge their souls into one, i guess it could be called the third impact, but thats what happened...shinji was able to choose to be seperate which was kindve a change of heart seeing as he hated interaction with others...also osca chose to be seperate, but idk why...but the humans have at fields..its what keep our concuinces seperate

The 'Adam & Eve' theorey has been disproven time and TIME again, DROP IT, everyone else CAN come back, so long as they develop the WILL to, and considering how many people there are, chances will have been that those two weren't alone for very long after we saw them last.

Asuka returned because she was the first to reject instrumentality after Shinji shut it down, and probably because Shinji himself yearned for her presence.

I don't know where you heard the 'prototype' thing from, but even the ancesteral race theorey doesn't support that (One which was stated in the 'classified information' from the Evangelion II game, and I don't fully support as the creator's involvement with it is ambigous).

After 3rd impact was aborted by Shinji, it opened the way for everybody to return if they so choose, Shinji and Asuka are the only two who chose to return at that time.

could be. technically with third-impact (by lilith) you would have the end of the world and the creation of a new one (illusionary one, one where everything shinji thinks or feels like becomes true, real) or the A.T.-Field back again and real world. i dunno why asuka ended up there, maybe becuz only they were in the evas at that time, asuka half-dead with round 100% synchro, but they were in. They took the role of adam and eve, you could say

Correction, that's not what ALL anime is about, even those which fall under the 'shonen' (action) catagory, such as Eva here.

the ending for both are pretty awesome if you actually think deep for the anime...instead of being little kids and just and only care for the fighting actions...
i agree that the actions are pretty cool, but that's not what animes are about...

I really liked the end of the EVA series...
but the "End of Evangelion" ending was just too messed up for me.
