  • Silly physics in ...

Silly physics in this one. Rotating the fist has no effect on the speed or the force of the punch. Besides, there are plenty of ways to hold the fist when punching. Like lantismckavanagh said, vertical fist is good for punching to the mid section. Female fist is good when punching to the face. Also, like others said, power comes from the ground, through the hips. Best power is to catch someone advancing into your well-grounded punch, it's like running into a pole.

  • This is a gyaku ...

This is a gyaku zuki, not choku zuki. And he rotate the fist too fast. The karate punch are generally horizontal because we try to "drill" the target, not only pushing (that's why we turn the fist at the end of the punch). And finally, the "main power" come from the hips, not the arm.

  • Слушай, ...

Слушай, dremelinskov, не умничай. Во всех техниках боевых искусствах главное - это движение тела, особенно бедер. Я занимаюсь кикбоксом и карате и принципы везде те же.

Listen, dremelinskov, don't act so smart. The most important aspect of all martial arts techniques is body movement, particularly movement of the hips. I train kickboxing and karate and the mechanics are similar everywhere.

  • Karate is a strong ...

Karate is a strong martial art. In terms of "power", is one of the strongest.
The only thing i find peculiar is that only karate, and his derivates use the "horizzontal" position of the hand. The "vertical" position is better for arm resistance to pressure and twisting, due to the higher resistance of radius and ulna.

this is what some people just dont get, i think its cos karate has been so widely spread, by movies and thousands of local clubs being set up. some other practitionors of say Judo, or TKD think 'oh karate, kids sport" but its not, i've broken a mans (yes a mans he was like 30 something) rib with a punch preformed like that (it was to the side of the floating rib) and i'm not a mucule man, i;m an ordanry teenager (well i was at the time).

  • The twist of the ...

The twist of the wrist is not where the power really comes from; in fact, more power will come if the arm is relaxed until the moment of impact.

The rotation provides speed, but the hips must drive forward as well. The strongest punch will combine a very relaxed and speed hip rotation along with a quick forward translation. This action throws the relaxed arm out like a whip, which twists and tightens at the last moment to deliver the damage.
