This summer Brooke was working with a group of traditional birth attendants in the community of Lwala, in Western Kenya. She taught them a curriculum of safe motherhood or Umama Salama, as she named it in Swahili. These women will now go on to teach others in their community. What an inspiration Brooke is to the whole world. An amazing lady! Her death is a huge loss to the medical community. She would have been an awesome doctor.
12 midwives from this class now will be able to safely deliver babies and also teach new midwives.

  • Of course I enjoyed ...

Of course I enjoyed the video and was impressed by her skills and passion. As much as anything though, I enjoyed hearing her voice again. I'll admit one of the first things I did when I heard about Brooke's passing was to call her phone in an attempt to get her voicemail and hear her voice again. Unfortunately, her phone had already been disconnected. Thanks for the post. Touching memorial yesterday as well...very fitting for her to honored in that manner.

  • What I love about ...

What I love about this video is I got to see Brooke in her element. She just loved what she was doing. This was her passion! She is so happy in this video and I feel as if I'm right in the same room with her. Her smile is infectious too. I love you Brooke!

  • One of the things I ...

One of the things I love about this video is that you can tell Brooke is thinking in swahili but translating it to english. You can see her searching for the english word in her mind. She was so immersed in this village and teaching others. Miss her.
