Another live one from 1980. This is a rendition of 'Whiskey in the Jar', live at Cork, Ireland on 4/13/1980. The unique thing about this version is that this was one of the rare times when Thin Lizzy had 3 guitarists in the band. Snowy White had just joined prior to the Irish tour and Midge Ure was still around through this leg of the tour. Scott Gorham (of course) was there as well, rounding out the three guitar lineup. Ure mostly played keyboards, but occasionally would pick up a guitar ...

  • Being the first ...

Being the first person in the UK to have this single way back in 1970 I had the pleasure of meeting the band in there dressing room in 1975 in Yeovil Somerset. This live version is just excellent & the original will always be my No! although it's great to see other bands interpretation of a great song. Respect & admiration for a truly great songwriter Phil Lynott. "Until The Next Time" Your music lives forever.

  • Metallica liked it, ...

Metallica liked it, which is why they covered it. And Thin Lizzie liked the Clancy Brothers and Dubliners versions which is why they did it.
Metallica has had their classics but now they are just overproducing the things they've always done and overproducing the hell out of their sound, which ruins it.

  • I thought the same ...

I thought the same thing once. Then I turned 18.

Actually in all seriousness, if we are taking about the two studio versions, I actually do prefer Metallica's cover. I've always been more of a metalhead and I think theirs had a lot of balls to it. I've never been a huge fan of Eric Bell's work (although he is quite good). But listening to Lizzy perform the song live...it's just a lot better than when Metallica does it (studio or live). Lynott was the ultimate showman and always gave his all.
