Yes, it's possible, and now it's easier than ever. Using a retail Leopard DVD, I installed Mac OS X on my PC hardware (self-built computer). This is NOT a Mac machine, it's a normal PC machine that used to run Vista, but now it runs Mac OS X 10.5.6 (latest updates through Software Update). Check out just how stable it is!

Installed Leopard via the BOOT-132 boot loader method (disc swapping method). NO distributions were used, just a retail Leopard DVD.

  • I'm in AW-

I've acquired a mac osx leopard DVD from the store. I have been looking around at people's computer setups to find what i should buy.
And i'm REALLY interested in using pc components to allow me to run Leopard.
I'd appreciate it if you could share your pc setup with me.
    Thanks-

  • My computer specs: ...

    My computer specs:
    ASUS P5K-V
    Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz
    8GB RAM
    nVidia 8800GT 512MB
    1TB HDD + 500GB HDD (SATA)
    Buffalo WiFi PCI Card

Installation method: BOOT-132 disc swapping using retail Leopard DVD (10.5). Updated to 10.5.6 via Software Update.

    Current problems:
    - Occasionally mouse must be unplugged and plugged back in after boot-up
    - Sleep broken / shutdown requires a hard shutdown after the OS stops (hold the power button)

  • Oh, I forgot to ...

Oh, I forgot to mention that I installed Leopard 10.5 (the first release of Leopard) from my original DVD. I updated all the way to 10.5.6 using Software Update without a single hitch.

  • Hey Foxteh! Yes, ...

Hey Foxteh! Yes, it's been going on since the first day an Intel release was out. I think everyone saw the news. Up until recently, you had to use a hacked distribution, and Software Update wasn't available. Now with the retail DVD install method and better user-knowledge, it's pretty darn stable.

BTW, I own an iBook G4, iMac, and Macbook. Sold an old iBook G4 too.

  • Congratulations, ...

Congratulations, however, people have been doing this for years - welcome to the pile!

Also, as a hackintosh user myself for about 18 months, Id recommend saving for a proper Mac - yes they are more expensive, but they're coming down in price these days, no bootloader worries, no update worries etc.
