By bearguySF [Affiliate User] 1206327214 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis country is going to fall apart if liberals and their opposites keep hate alive. I live in San Francisco - the most radical of U.S. cities. What's forgotten is that SF has Asians, blacks, transgender, gay, straight, and ALL kinds of people living fairly peaceful lives TOGETHER. It's possible, but not if we don't allow others their views. Even the conservatives have a right to their beliefs.

I'm a radical liberal but my dad was a Marine officer who fought in THREE wars. This song is about sacrifice ("I gave my best") and loss and grief and horror as much as it is about courage and camaraderie. Does Inviolate 1950 know about the composer of this song (duh, Jones didn't write it)? The images make me cry, but they don't make me nostalgic for war.
I guess I'm a liberal. Perhaps I'm an independent. I served 18 months in Vietnam. I've had had close friends die in war. Why is it some petty asshole like inviolate1950 thinks he can speak for a generation that went to war? Liberal or Conservative or Independent, we all love America. We just approach the solutions differently. Aons. 1st of the 11th ACR - The Blackhorse Regiment.

Check out her album Not Too Late if you doubt her political leanings. The liberals in gov't are actually the ones that want to take care of the vets on their return, Bush has abandoned them after sending them to an illegal war based on lies.

Anyone who listens to the lyrics and/or watches the Ken Burns/PBS series, THE WAR, realizes that these expressions are a tribute to the American troops, who had no influence on the events that led to WW2--not the politicians and generals. They were called to serve; and that's what they did with great valor. We should be eternally grateful to them.
