it is a nice sound but it doesn't really seem like anything too far from the typical Jimmy Smith-influenced jazz organ to me. yes i do hear that change around 1:20 where it sounds like he mixes in one of the higher drawbars. still nothing very different.

  • listen to his sound ...

listen to his sound in the opening vamp, it isn't anything close to your typical "organ sound"....and the way he changes the sound throughout the tune depending on the melody changes or the way redman's solo goes..

I hope Joshua puts out another CD with this band as strong as "Elastic". The one that followed this one, wasn't good. I also really like his "Back East" CD. Excellent musicianship!

  • Why highlight a ...

Why highlight a rhythm section that already shines the way they do? The rhythm section is mainly responsible for making a horn player sound as good as he does, if the groove is S**t , the whole thing is lost

ZaDouche, I was actually not being negative about Redman or his musical talent, but highlighting the rhythm section, which is commonly overlooked in bands.

  • What does it matter ...

What does it matter whos better?... they are just trying to make music together... go buy this album and tell me Redman S**ks ... this is his band and his composition... Blade is on the gig cause he is F**king incredible, so is Sam Yahel.. they are all integral to the piece, each player brings something unique and necessary... leaving one out would ruin the groove... well, id leave out when Redman tries some wierd S**t that doesnt work out

  • I would say that ...

I would say that the drummer is better than the saxophonist. It makes a change to have a subtle drummer, who conveys a great musicality, and works with the rest of the band; moving the drum kit away from an external rhythm, to an integral instrument.
