ramennoodlelover....The SR-71 top speed is its cruise speed..under the right conditions of air temp and engine flow performance, the top speed =cruise speed could reach as fast as 500 KEAS =equal to about Mach 3.5....

  • Actually, some ...

Actually, some parts are corrugated to allow for heat expansion, not because of air pressure.

Oh, and as long as we're making stuff up, little hamsters on wheels power the engines.

  • the airframe ...

the airframe covering has to be built slightly loose because the pressure of mach 4 is so great that if it was a tight fit it would probly crush

if you think you can go from america to russia in 30 minutes when flying at 3500 Kph I suggest you should watch a map of the world !!

You do realize Russia is just off the coast of Alaska?

  • Yes the SR-71 leaks ...

Yes the SR-71 leaks on the ground but they aren't THAT loosely built. Over half of the planes maximum take-off mass is fuel, it has plenty. And loose is a very vague term, and having been able to be up very close and actually touch an SR-71, trust me it's not by any means loose. Continual heating and cooling causes it to leak, flying Mach 3.3 tends to get pretty hot!
